CUSTOM QUILTS
OVERVIEW
All of my quilts are handmade with a top layer using your materials and premium quilting fabric for borders and/or framing, a center layer of premium batting and backed with the highest quality quilting cotton. They are quilted on my long arm machine to hold the layers together. They are machine washable and meant to be used and loved for years to come. I will make your quilt as strong and long lasting on the inside as it is beautiful to look at on the outside. Your quilt will be made entirely by me from start to finish in my home studio.

My desire in offering custom quilts is to be a local resource in the Charlotte, NC area; the friend you can tell your friend about. While I do take some out of town customers, I am committed to working mainly with local folks. This is important to me because I love the relational aspect of creating custom quilts. I like meeting with my customers and learning why their materials matter to them. I love working with them in person to select exactly the right fabrics that help tell their story. I will spend hours (and hours!) working on these quilts, so learning the why really matters to me.
MATERIALS & PREPARATION
There is a lot of work that goes into a memory quilt that can't be seen on the outside. Before any fabric is sewn I attach a 100% cotton woven material to the back of each item to be used in the quilt. This ensures it will be strong and long lasting far beyond the normal wear and tear of a regular knit T-shirt. Before bringing materials to me they must be freshly washed with NO FABRIC SOFTENER. If this has not been done the interfacing may not adhere properly.

You aren't limited to knit T-shirts, or woven fabrics in your quilt. I've included hats, race ribbons and work lanyards just to name a few "could this possibly work" examples. These items can make your quilt really personal and unique. That said, some of these materials require more time, and the additional labor will be charged accordingly in the initial project proposal.
QUILT SIZING
Every quilt I make is custom, based on the customer's materials, so I don't have set sizes. I strive to create "large throws," usually in the 50"- 65"x 60"-80" range. I aim to create a reasonable sized quilt to enjoy cuddled on the coach, or as a throw that could easily be taken along for an adventure and used as a picnic blanket. That means, rather than increase a T-shirt quilt size proportionate to the amount of shirts used, I would include rectangles as well as squares. That said, if you have specific size requirements, I am willing discuss how to meet your needs.
DESIGN CHOICES
Each custom quilt I create is designed entirely with the customer in mind. You will choose the coordinating fabrics, and backing for your project, the type of batting used inside depending how you want the quilt to feel as well as the quilting design to hold the layers together. Don't worry if this all sounds overwhelming! I meet with local customers in my workshop north of Charlotte in Huntersville, NC and through Zoom or FaceTime with out of town customers. During this meeting I love hearing why this material is so meaningful to you while we go through fabric samples. I'll suggest patterns and colors that will make your materials really pop. All the fabrics I use for your quilt will be purchased for your project, so the sky's the limit. Did dad love baseball? Let's stitch baseballs over the whole quilt. Want the back to match your sofa? We can make that happen.
This level of customization is what really sets my quilts apart from something you could order through a mass producer online. These quilts are often once in a lifetime projects; materials my customers have been saving for decades. When I say my items are handmade with love, it really starts at this design meeting when we start coming up with ideas that help capture the experience you want to cherish!
TIMELINE, PAYMENT & SHIPPING
The time to complete a t-shirt quilt is between 3-6 weeks from the point that I have your materials and the first half of the payment. Note: This timeline can vary around Christmas and graduation season, or if your quilt is a particularly complex custom design. If you have a deadline you're working with please let me know.

I require half of the anticipated cost to begin the project, I use this non-refundable payment to pay for the materials used in your project. Once the quilt is complete, I’ll send a final invoice and collect the second half of the payment when arranging for pick up, or shipment of your quilt.
If shipping is required, you are responsible for the shipping of your materials to me. I encourage you to insure this, as your items are irreplaceable. I will include the cost of return shipping in your final payment.
I collect the payment through Venmo, PayPal, Zelle and online through Quickbooks.

Deposits and completed quilts are non-refundable, as they are all custom work.
NEXT STEPS & WHAT TO EXPECT
If you’re ready to order a custom quilt, I’m so excited to work with you!
First, determine the type of quilt you'd like to have made. See examples, and descriptions above.
Next gather your materials and do a count of how many items you'd like to include in your quilt. Remember to count each item separately if you plan to use multiple parts (ex: back and front of a shirt will be 2 blocks)
For Quilts fill out this form:
If you'd like to order pillow(s) or a wall hanging go here:

Once I receive your form you'll hear back from me within 48 hours, confirming I got your request.
I will send you an invoice for the anticipated amount of your custom quilt. 50% of the anticipated total is due to begin the project. This non-refundable amount is used to purchase the materials for your project.
Once you send the deposit (50% of anticipated total) we will schedule a time to meet. This is when you’ll bring your materials to my workshop. Please plan for an hour for this meeting, as we’ll also be making design decisions. Or if you are shipping your items I will send this information and schedule a FaceTime or Zoom meeting.

I currently do not accept online request for Memory Quilts (non T-shirt type) or Baby Clothes Quilts because these projects vary significantly and require more communication to provide accurate pricing than can be provided on a form. If you're interested in that type of quilt, please email me.
If you have questions about a custom quilt, or an idea for a project not mentioned, feel free to email me!
